4. Chocolate Industry: India Is drooling

A 15-year study of elderly men published in the Archives of Internal Medicine in 2006 found a 50 percent reduction in cardiovascular mortality and a 47 percent reduction in all-cause mortality for the men regularly consuming cocoa, compared to those consuming the least cocoa from all sources.

Cocoa and its products are fondly used worldwide: however Per capita consumption of chocolates in India is minuscule at 200gms in India as compared to 8-10kgs respectively in most European countries.
Growth of other lifestyle foods such as malted beverages and milk food have actually declined by 3.7 percent and 11.7 percent, however, the CHOCOLATES continue to grow at a healthy rate of 12.6 percent.

With changing lifestyle dynamics, the word ‘Chocolate’ has become synonymous with ‘celebration’. India is eminent as a land of festivals – may it be grand Diwali or much awaited Raksha Bandhan, chocolate commerce is religiously followed in various families as greetings, nearly irrespective of their class.

5. Mithai

Mithai – the traditional Indian sweets are giving way to chocolates among upper-class Indians. Chocolate sales had risen by 15 percent in the year 2007 to reach 36,000 tonnes according to one estimate and this trend since then has seen consistent growth. However, irrespective of the figures trend, clearly the Mithai is losing its sugar with the Indian consumer, while the chocolates is commanding the consumer’s taste buds. With hundreds of malls sprouting across India, mithai shops are unsuccessfully struggling to co-exist. On the contrary, the array and variety of chocolates available in the malls seem to be pacing-up with each day.

People are not giving up all their pleasures, maybe they’ll miss a holiday or a weekend away but they are not going to sit home eating bread and drinking water. Chocolate is an affordable luxury, people eat chocolate in good times to celebrate and in hard times to feel better. But now is the great time for investors, as the Indian chocolate Industry offers an extremely lucrative investment opportunity.
